Weekly Photo Challenge – Endurance in Glendalough
Share a photo of what endurance means to you — maybe it’s your beat-up, well-travelled running shoes, the oldest structure in your town, the vista you earned climbing that mountain, a photo of your wedding ring, or your dog, tongue lolling, running full out.
I’ve never been to Cairo, otherwise I would’ve chosen the pyramids. They’ve certainly endured a lot over a very long time! Instead I’ll tell you about a very special place in Ireland, about an hour from Dublin, in the beautiful county Wicklow.
Glendalough or Glendaloch (Irish: Gleann Dá Loch, meaning “glen of two lakes”) is a glacial valley and home to one of the most important monastic sites in Ireland. Founded in the 6th century by St Kevin, the extensive ruins of Glendalough include several early churches, a graceful round tower, and various other sites dating from the 10th through 12th centuries.
Now that’s an endurance I wish I had! 🙂

Ireland is one of the most beautiful places, I have known through photographs. Scotland and Ireland are definitely in my bucket list.

The Scottish Highlands are also on my bucket list and they are so close as well, I should have really gone and seen them already. The problem with both countries you mentioned is that the weather is not always great and in the summer prices can be astronomical for visiting 😦

Oh, I see. UK Weather is really very unpredictable. Find out some innovative ways to travel during summer and beat the prices as well. I am sure there must be some way out. When you are done, do let us know your solution as well.

Haha, thanks Jane! Didn’t know you were a history teacher! Then it’s definitely THE place for you. I am always a bit jealous looking at Glendalough photos with a blue sky – every time I’ve been it’s been grey but still, it never fails to impress and perhaps adds to the atmosphere 🙂 It’s now more than 100 followers, yay! There’s a place in Waterford, Ardmore, that has a stunning round tower by the sea. It’s gorgeous there!

It is definitely worth a visit, and the old town of Youghal in Co. Cork which is also by the sea is only a short distance away. Ardmore is great, you will love it!
I used to visit there all the time when I lived in co. Cork but now that I’ve moved, I miss it. Take plenty of pictures if you do decide to go 🙂

It is a modern city. Perth is younger than Melbourne and Sydney
