In Pictures: Koh Phangan
This week, we’d like to see an image that looks dreamy to you. A photo of a place you often visit in dreams. A snapshot of your dreamy boy- or girlfriend. A scene that looks a bit out-of-this world. Take us on a flight of fancy!
Well, for my dreamy place you’ll definitely need to take a long flight from where I live. It’s an island with a certain reputation and completely overlooked by most people. Except the backpackers, who want to experience the infamous Full Moon Party, which has become sort of a rite of passage for them when travelling through South East Asia.
Earlier this year we stayed 14 days on Koh Phangan, an enchanting little island just above Koh Samui, its well-known ‘big brother’. Almost everywhere on the internet says this is way too long, two or three days are enough. We disagree! If you’re just there for the FMP, then perhaps it’s enough take in the madness of this beach rave and leave once it’s over. However if you’re looking at Koh Samui for a romantic or relaxing holiday perhaps you should consider Koh Phangan. It has even more beautiful beaches, much better diving and snorkelling and is great value for money.
You have to go outside the FMP season though, otherwise your romantic or relaxing break will be spoiled by hordes of drunken teenagers and sky-high accommodation prices. To give you an example: Our sea view room on Sunset Beach was THB 800 per night (€20 / $25) but two days before the FMP they raised this to THB 2600 (€64 / $80)! You can find out the latest party schedule here.
This post will take you on a photo journey of Koh Phangan and the two amazing weeks we spent there.
I hope you enjoyed this journey. There will be another post soon on how to get there, things to do and best places to eat!
